About me

Born in Rotterdam in 1983 and partly raised in Luxembourg, I have always lived where culture, creativity and technology meet. My career began in ICT after my vocational (MBO) training in Arnhem, after which I discovered my passion for education and went on to study at the Academie voor Lichamelijke Opvoeding (Academy of Physical Education) in Nijmegen.

In the years that followed I held various roles in education and sport, from physical education teacher at the international primary school Aletta Jacobsschool to team leader at Sportbedrijf Arnhem. There I worked on sport and health programmes and developed GymWijzer!®, a digital learning resource for cooperative learning in physical education.

My technological course sharpened when I became an ICT teacher at Rijn IJssel and later joined the Techadoptie practorate (applied research group), where I bridged care technology, wellbeing and modern didactics. From 2021 I further broadened my educational and technological expertise as a teacher/developer and learning team coach within the HU programmes Digitale Techniek & Media and Software Development.

From 2023 I worked at Open-ICT (HU University of Applied Sciences Utrecht), a programme that puts innovative, holistic learning processes at its core. I currently work for the minor Futureproof with AI. Alongside my work in education I am an entrepreneur. With Mariany Design and Mariany Hosting I support more than 150 clients with web design, hosting and digital solutions.

In recent years my focus has sharpened towards AI, data sovereignty and educational innovation. I am CEO & Co-founder of CivAI B.V., the organisation behind EduGPT, GovGPT, OrgGPT & CareGPT, European, humane and privacy-safe AI ecosystems. With projects such as the Prompt Companion, the AI Literacy Companion and the EduGPT AI Companions, I work towards a future in which AI works for people, not the other way around.

I live in Bennekom with my partner Marjolein, our two children and our dog. My work is rooted in the belief that learning is a lifelong adventure and that technology can strengthen us along the way, provided we shape it in a humane and responsible way.
